Cats are the best. There is no question about it. So to honour our favourite creatures we have based our latest and first drop of SS20 on them. This drop is titled ‘ I Love My Cat More Than You’ FACTS.

Ancient cultures have admired the cat for various reasons. In Ancient Egypt, they worshipped the cat as an embodiment of the gods. Bastet was the goddess of the home, domesticity, women's secrets, fertility, and childbirth. She protected the home from evil spirits and disease. She was portrayed with the head of a cat which is pretty iconic. In Ancient Rome the cat belonged to Diane, the moon goddess and was a befitting companion for her with its night time vision. They were also considered then as a guardian and protector of homes.

The mystiscism of cats spread across Greece, Asia and the rest of Europe and they became synonymous with witches, though at the time it was thought that the cats were sent by devils to help witches with their evil workings. *sinister music*  Many see cats as energetically and spiritually enlightened animals. They are said to have come from the star system of Orion which is known for its wisdom and enlightenment. Why are cats cooler than me?

"A cat’s astral field is so strong that it can easily chase any negative entity away . However, in some cases the presence of cats during magic rituals, is very encouraged."  (CAT – Protects You And Your Home From Ghosts And Negative Spirits!, Consciousreminder)

It makes sense why a witch would choose a cat for a familar. What is a familiar you ask? Well, In short it's a little magical side kick! Cute right.

Sadly we can’t have our own familiars in rented properties across London (Cries forever) But we can live vicariously through fictional witches...

So here are our top five fav familiars (cat ones that is)…

Grimalkin

In Macbeth the play by William Shakespeare a familiar named Grimalkin helped the three witches look into the future.

Grimalkin or greymalkin is an archaic term for cat.  The term stems from "grey" ...duh, it's litterally the name. And "malkin", an  term with several meanings which are not so nice so lets skip them. Fun fact though, Scottish legend makes reference to the grimalkin as a faery cat that dwells in the highlands. We love that!

Kit

Kit is the familiar of the charmed ones in Charmed.  And what a gorgeous cat indeed. Kit helps the charmed ones in many of their crisis.  We are aslo obssessed with his collar! I would seriously weat that.

The Siamese Cats from Lady and the Tramp

We have no doubt these sinister and low-key creepy cats are the familiars of Aunt Sarah from the classic movieThe Lady and the Tramp. If they’re not anyones familiars they can be mine. Creepy singing cats are a yes from me.

Salem

How can you not love this sassy adorable familiar. An icon to all familiars. We personally try to channel salems energy every day.

 Lucinda

Lucinda is the familar to the witch from Bewithed. A classic cat familiar and so frikin cute!
